Digitally Celebrating 100 Years of Co-op Housing in the Nation’s Capital

Representing the interests of over 15,000 co-op unit owners throughout Washington, D.C., the DC Cooperative Housing Coalition (DCCHC) works to promote cooperative housing as a desirable for of home ownership in the national capital area.

The coalition is an advocacy organization responsible for advancing the interests of members before government officials and regulatory agencies, and a social service organization providing information and education to members and the public.

In celebration of 100 years of cooperative housing in the District of Columbia, the DC Cooperative Housing Coalition was forced to cancel citywide events with the onset of the pandemic and pivoted to a comprehensive digital marketing experience.

ENGAGEMENT

Created and mobilized The Good Life: 100 Years of Co-ops in DC, a fully immersive digital marketing campaign utilizing multiple platforms with a goal of increasing paid coalition membership, promoting political advocacy efforts during this centennial celebration year and increase public education on the benefits of cooperative housing.

Through creation of new logo and branding design to accurately tell a visual story of the coalition’s work, coupled with digital assets creation, social media management and paid digital advertising, this century-celebration took a pandemic-era challenge and turned it into an opportunity in disguise.

MEASURE OF SUCCESS

The digital marketing campaign launched as a celebration of 100 years of co-ops in the national capital area propelled DCCHC forward through an increase in new property membership with an 18% increase in overall membership and 20% in occupancy during the campaign’s lifecycle.

In addition to membership growth, the digital marketing campaign also promoted increased engagement in the coalition’s overall political advocacy efforts – even garnering a public proclamation of support from the Honorable Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington, D.C. applauding DCCHC’s “tremendous contributions” towards making D.C. a world-class, culturally diverse city.
